Why We Need to Pray
Hebrews 4:16: “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”
The second thing that is a “must” if we’re going to finish strong is prayer. In a relationship, both parties communicate. If we’re going to grow spiritually, we need to be reading our Bible (God talking to us). But we also need to be spending time in prayer because prayer is how we talk to God.
Keep it simple. I don’t know about you, but I could complicate buttering a slice of bread. But prayer isn’t complicated. Since Jesus told His disciples to “go into a closet to pray (Matthew 6:6),” it’s only you and the God who knows your name. If we sound awkward or don’t know the right words to say, so what?
You could start by remembering God is your Abba Father and thanking Him for that. Has He been good to you? Praise Him for that. Have you sinned? Tell Him about it. He already knows, but we find forgiveness and healing in confessing our sins.
What to pray about? Everything. I recently reconnected with a missionary friend from almost 50 years ago. She said she remembered I prayed about everything and once asked God to remind my husband to get milk. And He did. What I feel about that is shame. Because I’ve become much too self-sufficient to pray for milk.
Then your own words, tell your Abba Father what you think you need. I say “think” because what I think I need is often totally different from what I do need. That’s why we need to pray “according to His will.”
I like to keep a prayer journal and pray from a prayer list. You think your problems or requests are too small when the world is going crazy? Remember ALL the problems people could have are small to the God who breathes out universes. How you do it is your choice. Just do it.
What might happen if we began to pray?
